Beasley Media Group Statement on the FCC Beginning its 2022 Quadrennial Review

Naples, Florida (9/30/25): The following statement can be attributed to Beasley Media Group Chief Executive Officer Caroline Beasley, in response to today’s announcement from the FCC that it has approved a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to begin its 2022 Quadrennial Review of the broadcast ownership rules:

“We would like to thank Chairman Carr for moving forward with the quadrennial review on this critical endeavor,” said Caroline Beasley, Chief Executive Officer of Beasley Media Group. “This is a defining moment for our industry to ensure that local radio can continue to fulfill its essential public service mission for decades to come. We look forward to working with the Commission to implement common-sense reforms that will allow broadcasters to compete fairly and keep serving the local audiences who rely on us every day.”

Background:

For over a century, broadcasters have been a trusted source of news, emergency information, entertainment, and community connection – especially for underserved and rural audiences. Yet, the current rules governing broadcast ownership were written in a pre-digital era and no longer reflect the competitive realities of today’s marketplace. Radio now competes against global digital platforms with no comparable ownership restrictions, even as advertising revenues decline, and operational costs rise.

Ownership relief is vital to leveling the playing field, enabling radio broadcasters to achieve scale, attract investment, and continue providing the free, local service that millions of Americans depend on — including during natural disasters, public safety emergencies, and moments of crisis.

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about business — it’s about safeguarding a lifesaving public resource and ensuring that radio remains strong, resilient, and ready to serve generations to come.
