The Company was founded on December 3, 1961, when late founder, George Beasley, was awarded an FCC license to build WPYB-AM, a daytime-only radio station in Benson, North Carolina. At a time when many smaller communities lacked access to local broadcasting, he recognized radio’s unique ability to inform, connect, and serve. That vision became the cornerstone of our company.
Over the past six and a half decades, Beasley has evolved from a single-station operator into a leading, diversified media company with a strong portfolio of radio, digital, and live event platforms. While the media landscape has transformed, our commitment to local communities, high-quality content, and trusted partnerships has remained constant.
The anniversary theme – “65 Strong: Forward Together”—reflects both the strength of our foundation and our focus on the future.
